We have been told that coffee is not always good for us in higher quantities. Coffee is a stimulant and could make your heart race. It can also dehydrate a body instead of replenishing it.
A cup of joe is comforting and the first hot drink in the morning that magically wakes up our brain. It is a social drink as well. Coffee among friends at Starbucks is a fun activity to do. Starbucks has made millions from the various coffee drinks created. It is not just about the coffee its about being social as well. Coffee can come in many flavors with various additives and creamers. Is it a healthy drink?
Coffee, is it All that Good?
We have been told that coffee can be bad for your heart if you have heart conditions. But, it is apparently good for your brain and stimulates the brain. In a recent study, coffee has been shown to prevent health issues. However, you have to drink at least eight or more cups a day to prevent diseases. In the end, drinking that much coffee might prevent a specific disease, but it may cause secondary problems.
Coffee-drinking data was collected from the UK Biobank -” long-term study of half a million people in the U.K. aged 38 to 74.” It was concluded that coffee drinkers live longer than non-coffee drinkers. The results were published in Jama Internal Medicine. The evidence suggests that people who drink more than one cup of coffee have a 20% reduced risk of cancer, a 20% reduced risk of Type 2 diabetes, a 30% reduced risk of Parkinson’s disease, and a 5% reduced risk of heart disease.
On the Flip Side of Coffee
Pregnant women should not drink coffee still because a baby cannot metabolize caffeine. Also, people who have a predisposition to heart disease shouldn’t drink coffee. It also has been known to raise cholesterol levels. Studies have come out about coffee causing bladder cancer among males especially.
Coffee may have some benefits for autoimmune and neurological diseases, but it isn’t the best drink for you overall. If you had your drink of choice, choose water. Water hydrates and provides energy with replenishing effects. Water is not a diuretic, and if you drink 8 or more cups a day it will leave you energized
Drink Coffee Responsibly
Most people drink coffee with extra creamers or sugar. The extra cream is loaded with fat, and this is what can add to cholesterol levels. An abundance of sugar every day in your coffee is not healthy. If you are carrying a history of diabetes, a habit like this could lead to future diabetes. However, the coffee drinking data did show some reduced risks in certain diseases with the consumption of coffee. Therefore, drink responsibly and carefully when it comes to this comforting drink: coffee. Afterall, it is still considered a stimulant.
