The battle of digital personal assistants has truly began after the final releases of Apple, Google and Microsoft’s artificial intelligence- Siri, Google Now and Cortana respectively. Now, in order to make your life easier and making the AI’s to response to your voice commands, you need to know which one is the best in terms of functionality and features.

Let us briefly introduced three of our most popular virtual assistants first

    Siri- The iGenius

Compared on the compatibility with human humor, Siri is looking like the best VA with awesome background. The voice control feature of Siri is way better than Cortana and Google Now. You can find launch apps, phone numbers, send emails, display photos and even post exact update to Facebook and Twitter.

One limitation is, Siri can be launched and used only when the device is plugged in and unlike the Cortana and Google Now, this is only compatible with thr platform- iOS. While other two are in process of using them in all platforms like Android, Windows etc.

    Cortana- The Windows Intelligence

While Microsoft officially released Cortana for the very first time, it was described and overestimated as the best bit from Google’s Google Now and Apple’s Siri.

Upon activation, Cortana will help you in reminding events or important dates, conducting web searches, weather forecast, personalized news and so on. Because of its availability in Windows 10 PC and mobile in a significantly wide range, Cortana is the most well-established personal virtual assistant in the world. But some developments need to take place in particular cases like- integrity with third party apps.

Google Now- The Predictive Search World

When the other rivals of virtual assistance are possessing almost same kind of features, Google Now has got something new and it almost works like a real life personal assistant. For example, if you add a reminder for your flight, then Google Now will remind you the flight time, traveling time to the airport, maps to the airport and other important flight news.

Besides, you can get direct and exact location of places from Google Map while asked to Google Now. But also you have to allow it to use some specific features of the Smartphone if available.

After analyzing a series of questions and experiences from users of all of these three VA’s, we’ve come to a final comparison among them.

    Cortana-Siri-Google Now: The Names

    • Cortana is named after one of the characters of the popular Xbox games Halo In fact Halo fans are incredibly happy that the digital assistant of Microsoft has been named after the game character.
    • As described by Adam Cheyer- The co-founder of Siri, this name is specially chosen for what it signifies. Siri is the norse for ‘Beautiful Woman Who leads to victory’.
    • The Name ‘Google Now’ was decided to be taken by a committee meeting of Google officials.

    Platforms and Configurations

    • Siri, Cortana and Google Now, three of them are individually compatible with three kinds of devices- iPhones, Windows OS and Android OS respectively. The disparity f the devices potentially impact the performance of the virtual assistants.
    • All of the three systems have automated activating voice command: ‘Hey, Siri’, ‘Hey, Cortana’ and ‘OK, Google’. Also a potential battery drain out takes place when you’re using Google Now and Cortana in full swing. In the other hand, Apple has only allowed to use Siri in iOS devices only while the device is plugged in!; which surprisingly reduces the potential of Siri.

Comparative Responses of Siri, Cortana and Google Now

Well, now it’s time for the epic ‘Live in action’ game for three of the virtual assistants. Here are a set of questions and the respective answers of Siri, Cortana and Google Now-

Question 1: Did the giants win last night?

Google Now: “No, the Giants lost to the Pirates five to two. They are playing the Cubs today at 7:15 pm.”

Cortana: “On Sunday, the Giants lost to the Pirates two to five.”

Siri: “The Giants didn’t play yesterday. They play the Jets in a preseason game on Saturday at 4 PM:”

Question 2: Who is the President?

Google Now: Just brought up the Page of Wikipedia entry for “President of the United States” Topic and read aloud the first paragraph.

Cortana: Cortana also acted almost same like Siri. The only difference is it just opened a new tab in the web browser and showed the search results.

Siri: “Let me check that”, and after some while it brought up with a list of search results.

One surprising fact was, when the question is slightly changed like ‘Who’s the president?’, the answers from Cortana and Siri remained same, but Google Now showed up different results. It showed “President Barrack Obama. According to the White House, Barrack Obama is the 44th President of the United States.”

Question 3: What time is it in Tokyo??

Google Now: Just brought up the Page of search result, showed the local time of Tokyo and read it loud.

Cortana: Almost same like Google Now. Showed the appropriate answer but within a slower response time than Google Now.

Siri: “Let me check that”, and after some while it brought up with a list of search results.

The fastest answer was from Google Now. Cortana was a bit slow but found the accurate answer and both of the AI’s read the answers loudly. But when it came to Siri, it seemed to be struggling with the question. In fact, firstly it didn’t understand the question. It picked up ‘I’m is it in Tokyo’! After several attempts of make it understand the question, it finally revealed the mysterious answer!

    Final Result of The Response-Test

    Google Now

    Interface: 7/10

    Listening: 8/10

    Response Time: 8/10

    Answer Relevancy: 7/10

    Overall: 7.5/10

    Interface: 8/10

    Listening: 6/10

    Response Time: 7/10

    Answer Relevancy: 8/10

    Overall: 7.25/10

    Interface: 8/10

    Listening: 7/10

    Response Time: 7/10

    Answer Relevancy: 5/10

    Overall: 6.75/10

After analyzing with some more questions, I found Google Now to bring up the most relevant answer and more likely to read the result out. Siri comes second with almost same result but a bit slower. Another problem of Siri was to repeat the same question because it often picked up the wrong words. And finally, I have to rate Cortana as the last of these three because of the silly answers it found. Although in terms of getting the question and finding search results, it was pretty good.
