The wide open Tech world gives and takes away with time. In 2015, we had to say good bye to several virtual technologies, products and services which actually ended up eventually In the digital realm. Several reasons can be blamed upon the failures such as change in product and service strategies, acquisitions, failure to fulfill the demand of new age and so on.

Here I have presented 10 most significant technological failure of 2015. Let’s reflect on most important tech failures of 2015-

Top 10 Technological Failures of 2015: In Memoriam

    Here are they –

Music Services: Zune Music Pass, Rdio, Beats Music, Songza

Rdio, Zune Music Pass, Songza, Beats Music

Online music services are being more popular day by day. But sadly, several potential music services ended up in 2015.

Since 2014, as a part of Beats, Apple launched a music streaming service named Beats Music which is terminated this year. Apple itself officially shut down the service at 30th November of 2015. But some of the awesome services from Beats Music are still upgraded and embedded at Apple Music which is the proper successor of the previous approach of Apple.

Similarly, Sangza- A popular streaming radio service by Google is meant to be ended at January, 2016. But still, the mood and event-based playlist still are live at the music service of Google play- Google Play Music.

You might have remembered zune- Microsoft’s ill-fated music service which was an iPhone competitor as well. Though, after years of poor service and poor-selling device, the company was still alive and maintained Zune Music Pass service of subscription. Finally, at November 2015. The company finally retied the service.

Similarly, another small but loyal music service- Rdio ended up at 2015 which was meant to compete with Spotify– another popular music store online.

Termination of Productivity Services: Tempo, Mailbox. Sunrise, Carousel

    Mailbox, Tempo, Sunrise, Carousel

In the starting of 2015 and 2014, an entire industry was raised in order to remake productivity apps. The main purpose of them was to manage emails and to deal with the calendar entries. But, with time, this seemed to be a very tough to be a very tough place.

While at the year of December 2014, Dropbox declared to establish a Shutter Mailbox, it looked to be a very promising service to the customers worldwide. But gradually it turned to be an ill-fated limited service for them. The email app which acquired for more than $100 million has finally showed that, success doesn’t always last forever.

Sunrise- a popular calendar app was founded and acquired by Microsoft was introduced at 2015. But instead of Sunrise, Microsoft outlook turned out to be more popular to the users because of Microsoft’s announcement of discounting the Standalone Sunrise App. The same thing can be cited about Tempo- another calendar app phone users which was later, acquired by Sales force in May, 2015.

Mapping and Social Analytics: Topsy, tata and HopStop

    Tata, Topsy and HopStop

It’s a trend that, whenever Apple owns a company, it gradually losses its own identity. Though, The Hardware Division of Beat’s was an exception, we saw a couple of examples last year. Apple acquired Topsy and HopSpot back in 2013, and as a result we lost the identity of those companies in 2015.

HopSpot was a great and popular app to help the users to mass transit in several cities. It was so popular because of it’s ability to tell the exact entrance location of trains to reach your destination in a shortest period of time. But in September 2015, the service was shutted down with the release of iOS 9. Because Apple itself is conceiving a map service named Apple Map.

Another app for social analytic service was announced to be closed at December, 2015. The fact is now clear that Apple is now using Topsy and its parents. But hopefully, the services and utilities will be reflected in the better versions of Siri(virtual assistance by Apple) and Apple TV.

End of Firefox Era: Firefox OS, Farewell and Amazon Fire Phone

Farewell, Firefox OS, Amazon Fire Phone

In 2015, the tech industry has learned that smart phones aren’t likely to create that much appeal to users unless they are run by Google Android or iOS. The Firefox OS, which was meant to be occur a disastrous sales and tepid perception, is actually killed off when it attempted to replace Android OS or iOS.

Similarly, after several years of fighting to establish in the emerging world, Firefox OS and Fire Phone literally failed to take place. So as a result, the year for them ended up with massive business failure and termination of Firefox OS, Farewall and Amazon Fire Phone.

Unofficially Dead: Google Plus and Adobe Flash

    Google PlusAdobe Flash

Though you might be surprised about hearing the termination of Google Plus and Adobe flash, but as a matter of facts both of these services are unofficially killed in 2015.

Google has not killed Google Plus yet, but significant changes are brought into it as Google is now almost gave up on Google Plus. With an aim and prospects of being wannabe Facebook or wannabe Pinterest, Google Plus actually quite failed to prove itself. So, now no one is expecting to exist beyond 2016.

Okay, Adobe flash is another thing you might be surprised about after seeing it here. Though Adobe flash wasn’t killed officially in 2015, but this feature is already on its deathbed. Due to frequent security vulnerability and as because Apple and Microsoft did not install it officially into their operating system, Adobe flash has lost much of it’s would be users since last couple of years. As a result, Adobe itself also created an alternative of Adobe Flash, which is named as Adobe Animate CC.

As of the constant trend of techie world, newer technologies (both virtual and materialistic) will be introduced in future. Similarly, termination of older and non-satisfactory technologies will take place. And that’s how things work around techie world.
